RELATIONALLY

We surround kids with competent tutors and coach their parents to be a positive voice when it comes to education.

MATERIALLY

We give kids the basic necessities to afford them the opportunity to succeed including school tuition fees, uniforms, shoes, backpacks, school supplies, transportation, access to computers and Internet, medical/dental checkups, and glasses (you’d be surprised by how many kids don’t know they need them).

Equipping Kids to Succeed

We target the same neighborhoods in which we have built houses, thus reflecting the natural progression of shelter being a primary need and education coming next. In the long-run, education empowers youth to break the cycle and mindset of poverty which is so prevalent in Tijuana.

Doxa’s scholarship program meets children on a holistic level, taking an individualized approach to the success of each student. Entering into relationship with their family, journeying along with them, and sharing the successes and failures along the way. This intimate knowledge helps guide exactly what resources and assistance the student needs to be successful.

In 2007, the Doxa scholarship program supported 10 students. We now support 140 students annually.

Doxa continuously looks for ways to improve its education program through dialogue with local school teachers, scholarship families, and staff. Doxa scholarships have seen a high degree of success. Children have entered into the program significantly behind in school (some by entire grade levels) and with their hard work are able to catch-up to where they need to be.

New children are accepted into the scholarship program after applying and an interview. Demonstrated financial need and a family commitment to educational success are a must. As Doxa enters into relationship with each child and family, it is a commitment to doing everything within our power to set them up for success.
