PATRICK MCCALLISTER
Board Chair

Patrick McCallister has been involved with Doxa since 2013, first as a volunteer and trip leader and later as a member of the board beginning in 2021. His work centers on partnering with families and communities in Tijuana to build homes, expand access to education, and support long-term development. Over the past decade, he has helped lead and coordinate annual house-building teams, strengthening relationships between volunteers, local partners, and the communities they serve. Patrick’s commitment to addressing poverty, housing insecurity, and systemic injustice continues to shape his leadership on the board and his hands-on involvement in Tijuana and in the Seattle area where he lives.

Outside of his role with Doxa, Patrick works in financial services, where he focuses on operations, long-term strategy, process improvement, and risk management. His extensive business and leadership experience support the goals and sustainability of Doxa’s mission in Tijuana.

STEVE SMITH
Vice-Chair

Steve first got involved with Doxa in the early 2000s through housebuilding trips organized by Mercer Island Presbyterian Church. Since then, he’s taken part in more than 20 trips and now helps lead the planning and operations of intergenerational builds. As a former educator, he’s passionate about making sure families have not just secure housing, but also access to education and opportunities for growth—values that closely align with Doxa’s mission. With decades of experience in technology and project leadership, Steve contributes to Doxa’s long-term strategy while staying actively involved in day-to-day operations. Sharing this work with his family and community has been a joy, and over the years, Tijuana has come to feel like a second home. He’s grateful for the chance to help create meaningful experiences for volunteers and families alike, while making a meaningful impact on quality of life for families in Tijuana.

BECCA PHIIPLSEN
Board Secretary

Becca was introduced to Doxa in 1991 as a high school junior through The Edge, the youth ministry at University Presbyterian Church. A sunset at Hogar de Los Niños with friends became a defining moment in her faith—where God made Himself clear and near. The mission trips opened her eyes, shaped lifelong friendships, and revealed what truly matters. After earning a Molecular and Cellular Biology degree from the University of Washington in 1996, she married her college sweetheart and lived in Germany for four years. Returning to the US and starting a family, Becca felt prompted to return to Tijuana in 2013 through Doxa’s connection with Sammamish Presbyterian Church. Becca loves being hands-on at build sites—connecting with students, sweating, laughing, and serving families. As a board member, she brings empathy, hospitality, and deep joy in returning to Tijuana, where God continues to meet her through the vibrant, faith-filled community.

BRAD HAUGE
Board Member

Brad Hauge spent 18 of the past 20 years doing high school youth ministry at First Presbyterian Church in Spokane, WA. Every one of those years (excepting Covid) included 1-2 trips down to Tijuana to partner with DOXA in home building trips. He still has vivid memories of riding around in the back of a cargo van with some friends after presenting a family with keys to a new home on his first trip in 1995. The memories of rapping Cypress Hill on the roof that year are also just as vivid! Brad currently serves as the Director of Intergenerational Ministry and Mission at FPC and is excited to continue the church’s partnership with DOXA in both new and familiar ways. Live music, time with his wife and two daughters, a great book, and suffering through each Mariners season are the preferred ways Brad spends his time. The M’s should just win more consistently!

TAMI HOLLAND
Board Member

Tami Holland has served with Doxa in Tijuana since 1993. As a newlywed who knew nothing about construction, she quickly formed friendships with the kids she met at Casa Hogar De Los Niños. Her construction knowledge has expanded greatly since then, but the relationships were what kept her coming back to Mexico every year since. She has brought all four of her children to Tijuana for house building, orphanage remodels, Christmas parties and quinceñeras. Now, as a member of the board of Doxa, she is grateful for the incredible ways she has seen God in Tijuana, and is proud to serve alongside them.

JONI JEN
Board Member

Joni Jen is a mother, childhood educator and entrepreneur. Living and working in the Bay Area for over 30 years, she is the founder and CEO of Olive Children Foundation — a non-profit organization that strives to prepare the children of today to be the leaders of tomorrow. She holds a strong belief that leadership skills are developed through a combination of quality, hands-on education, and hands-on community service. This belief led her to DOXA, with which OCF has been involved in since 2014. Since then, over 250 people from around the Bay Area have participated in the program, building over 30+ homes in Tijuana. Through Doxa, Joni is able to bring together two separate communities, bridging the gap through service. Her favorite memory of Tijuana involves completing a build with a group of teenagers and families. She will remember the moment they handed the key over to the family forever.

CAMILLE MORGAN
Board Member

Mexico housebuilding trips were in Camille’s job description when she took an intern position at MIPC in 1998, and became one of her favorite parts of the job. She enjoyed both the logistics of taking 30-150+ participants across the border, as well as watching students and adults alike put aside everyday distractions to make friends, try their hand at construction, communicate across language barriers, and experience a different cultural and socio-economic context. In 2002, Camille became Doxa’s first paid employee, and for 10 years handled the administrative and communication details that facilitate housebuilding experiences for all groups building with Doxa. Camille went on to co-lead 5 intergenerational trips with her husband and 3 kids, introducing many families to the joy, challenges and growth to be found in partnering with our friends in Tijuana. She looks forward to continuing that partnership in her role as board member.

LINDSAY MURPHY
Board Member

Lindsay first began going on house building trips to West Tijuana when she was an intern at Mercer Island Presbyterian Church right after college. She was profoundly affected by the welcome, grace and communal support she saw among the families and community in Pedregal. She also appreciated the opportunity that housebuilding trips provided the high school students and adults from Mercer Island to expand both their worldview and their ideas about what it means to belong to God’s family. Lindsay is excited and humbled to be joining the Doxa board and expects to learn a lot from this experience and help wherever she can. Her favorite memory in Tijuana was the impromptu dance party she got to take part in at Unidos por Siempre, as Maria and the children showed off all their fabulous dance moves!

DAVE MAHAR
Board Member

Dave Mahar has a deep, lifelong connection to serving in Mexico, a journey that began in 1981 when he dedicated his life to following Jesus on an Azusa Pacific Mexicali Spring Break trip. For 30 years, Dave served as a Student Ministry Pastor in four churches across California and Illinois, with Mexico always at the center of his mission. His direct partnership with Doxa began in 2001 while he was the Student Ministry Pastor at Christ Church of Oak Brook, leading groups of high school students to serve and build homes for local families. Dave currently resides in Western Springs, Illinois, where he owns Dave’s Finish Carpentry. He is married to Char and they have two grown children, Ashley and Stephen. In his free time, Dave enjoys cycling with Char, spending time with family, and connecting his Northern California roots with Chicagoland by cheering for the Cubbies or the Giants.
