An Exciting Announcement
We’re excited to share meaningful news about the future of our work in Tijuana.
Kathy, the Founder of Casas de Luz, has generously gifted Casas de Luz to Doxa. This transfer of stewardship is rooted in deep alignment of values, a common vision for serving families in Tijuana, and a desire to pursue greater long-term sustainability.
Doxa is an established 501c3 non-profit organization working exclusively in Tijuana for over 30 years. Together, with Casas de Luz’s 20 years of experience, we are poised to serve the Tijuana community for decades to come.
Over the past several months, Kathy and Alex, Executive Director of Doxa, have been in thoughtful conversation, discovering strong alignment across mission, values, and operations. What has emerged is a shared belief that, together, we can strengthen and expand the impact of house building, education, and long-term community development throughout Tijuana.
This partnership brings exciting opportunities. With a larger combined volunteer base, long-term partner relationships, and complementary strengths, we’re positioned to serve more families with greater depth and sustainability than ever before. Likewise, we’re better equipped to welcome and support a greater variety of volunteer groups who wish to build houses and meaningfully engage with the Tijuana community.
We’re also pleased to share that Kathy has joined Doxa’s Board of Directors. This reflects her unwavering commitment to serving Tijuana families and the teams who come down to volunteer, while providing a sustainable and meaningful way for her leadership and wisdom to continue shaping this work for years to come.
To help guide this transition, we’ve created a dedicated committee to ensure we move forward with care, clarity, and collaboration. 2026 is a transition year and we’ll communicate updates as appropriate. On-the-ground work continues in Tijuana and we’ve already made internal changes, with additional public-facing changes coming soon.
What excites us most about this next chapter is the people behind it. Kathy’s steadfast dedication to serving Tijuana families, her thoughtful partnerships with build sponsors and volunteer teams, and her servant leadership and energy are deeply valued. Doxa is grateful to steward and build upon the foundation she has so beautifully established. One of our goals is that together, we may be greater than just the sum of our parts.
We recognize this transition may raise questions, so we’ve created a short FAQ to provide additional clarity. We welcome your questions and comments anytime.
Thank you for being part of this journey with your time, generosity, and trust. We’re excited about what’s ahead and look forward to continuing this work together.
With Gratitude,
